Because the Twentieth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution specifically defines the beginning and end of terms for the President and other elected Federal officials, astrologers have the luxury of being able to examine the chart for Barack Obama’s Inauguration (well, within a few minutes or so) in advance. In our recent newsletter, Pam Ciampi observes:
I’m sure everyone is aware that Mercury retrograde will be combust the Sun while the Moon is void of course on Inauguration Day (see chart, right). This leaves much to talk about in astrological circles as to how Obama’s administration will weather the various political and economic storms that are sure to follow. The bright spot on January 20th is that the Sun/Mercury will be in semi-sextile to Pluto and sextile the Moon.
Those who are interested in taking a closer astrological look at Barack Obama’s Inauguration chart might enjoy these articles:

For our new president’s first term, he will certainly be on a steep learning curve. However, these contacts suggest that he will learn well and respond wisely with disciplined and prompt action.

Lynn Hayes also offers an interesting look at the Inauguration at Beliefnet:
I am less concerned by the Moon being void of course (making no aspects to another planet) than I am interested in the fact that the Moon on Inauguration Day sits right on the Midheaven of Barack Obama’s chart. The Moon here represents the heart of the People, and it sits on the point where Obama fulfills his desire to serve the People (the Midheaven shows not only career, but where we fulfill the destiny of our Life Path). He certainly begins his term with the full support of the American people: his approval rating is somewhere between 75 and 80%. That is not surprising given the fact that transiting Jupiter is conjunct Jupiter in Obama’s chart, something we call the “Jupiter Return” that is associated with abundance and good things…. read the full article here

This chart augurs great success.
The ruler of the 10th is Saturn and is in the 5th (opposing Uranus). President Obama and his cabinet are going to shake-up govt. Good. This needs to be done.
The ruler of the 5th (Sun) is in the 10th (the President shines like a king) although debilitated by being in Aquarius. Some changes that he wants MUST be supported by his cabinet members. With Sun applying to conjunct Uranus, he may want too much change, too quickly. That would be a disaster.
With four planets (plus North Node)in the sign of change (Aquarius) in the 10th – and Uranus, the ruler in 11th (hopes) opposing Saturn in 5th (Republican or established govt. that he is coming into and ruling the 10th) – the changes in govt should be permanent(Aquarius is fixed)and potentially positive.
Saturn trines MC Capricorn, suggesting that the change that President Obama wants will and should be supported by those in-the-know, or the older experienced members of his cabinet, if change is going to be a success. Volker comes to mind. The change will supported IF it’s slow and planned. Although it seems that strong opposition is inevitable with Uranus/Saturn aspect – (there are those Republicans that will still consider any changes too radical). There will be backlash, mighty resistance.
But, Mars is exalted in Capricorn, and sextiles Utanus, implying that high-minded honest people, working in the best interest of freedom and democracy (9th) will be able to bring progressive groups of people together, in order to bring this change about. A lot of intellectually creative teamwork likely. Being hard-working and high-minded (self-interests aside) is key to nullifying or at least mitigating the Uranus/Saturn opposition.
The void of course Moon implies a kind of insecure feeling that will be felt during the inauguration and lingering throughout his period in office. But the Moon makes several good approaching aspects, once it enters Sagittarius: It sextile retrograde Mercury (ideas will be discussed about how to deal with the deficit; (Mercury rules second); homes, foreclosures (Moon rules fourth); and approaching sextile to Sun, (Pres. Obama will be swamped with petitions, letters)no doubt. But ith Moon approaching sextile to Jupiter – positive things are coming.
Pluto does oppose President Obama’s natal Venus in Cancer. He will accutely feel the deficit peoblem and hate to say it, I see BIG taxes coming – since his Venus and USA natal chart Venus are in the same sign and degree almost, though opposite houses (2nd and 8th).
Thanks NCGR for allowing me to give my input.
