FROM THE PRESIDENT
GREETINGS and best wishes for a magical Winter Solstice! The energy this December overwhelmingly asks us to look backwards before we start to look ahead. With two retrogrades and a lunar eclipse in nostalgic Cancer, the energy for forward movement is stalled from the 20th when Mars changes gears and shifts into reverse. Mercury also goes retrograde the day after Christmas and the Cancer lunar eclipse joins the mix on New Year’s Eve. These are three indications that all action items on your agenda are best put on hold until after the middle of January when Mercury turns direct or better yet until March when Mars starts moving forward. Because retrogrades are signals that it’s time to go back and take another look before moving forward, the silver lining is that this is a perfect opportunity to strategize and plan your next move; it’s just not the time to make it.
NEWS: In addition to a great line up of speakers on fascinating topics ranging from Astro Feng Shui in February to The Karmic Code in November, our plans for next year include many free astrological events in North county. Please plan to stop by the Aquarius Café some Saturday where you can sip your coffee and talk about any astrological topic in a friendly Aquarian atmosphere. Jill Estensen and I are also running a monthly New Moon Meditation Group that explores the energy of the zodiac sign of the New Moon through astrology and meditation. Check the website for times and dates on these events.
SPECIAL FREE EVENT: Field Trip to the Rosicrucian Fellowship Headquarters in Oceanside on January 24th. Remember MESSAGE TO THE STARS? Max Heindel wrote his iconic book right here in San Diego! If you’d like to join us for this unique visit to our astrological past please contact pciampi@sbcglobal.net.
PLUS: As of January 1, 2010, the Boards of San Diego NCGR and the San Diego Astrological Society have agreed to RECIPROCATING MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNTS. This means that a SDNCGR member can attend any event at SDAS at member rates. Another benefit of joining SDNCGR!
If you’re looking for some in-depth insights into how the planetary energy is affecting us on a national as well as personal level, please check out Johnny Mireheil’s monthly New Moon blog on www.ncgrsandiego.org
I leave you with the words from a Chinese proverb that I find particularly right for this season: ‘It is better to light one candle rather than to curse the darkness’.
Best wishes for a happy, holy and healthy 2010!
Pam

The eclipse season is over and as the weather is getting cooler I am aware that summer is coming to an end. The astrological weather for the next few months also looks like it might be settling down as it includes retrograde Mercury for most of September, Pluto turning direct on 9/11 and Saturn’s ingress into Libra right before Halloween. (Virgos shouldn’t get out the party hats yet as Saturn returns for one more pass over the late Virgo degrees in April 2010.)
NEW DIRECTORS ON BOARD
There are also some changes in the air at the San Diego Chapter. I am happy to welcome two new additions to the Board. Jill Estensen has been appointed as the new Publicity Director and Deborah Ifill is our new Recording Secretary. In addition to welcoming Jill and Deborah I’d like to give a big thank you to VP Janet Carrol and Membership Director Tamira McGillivray for filling these positions in addition to their regular roles for the past year.
CALLING ALL ASTROLOGERS
The Study Groups resulted in one member, Janet Sutton, passing Level 1. Congratulations to you Janet, well done!
In light of the changes at NCGR at the national level where it has been decided that education will be under the auspices of the newly formed NCGR-PAA, the Board has decided not to continue the Study Groups. Instead we are sponsoring a free astrological discussion group for astrologers of all levels. The Aquarius Café is open to everyone and will meet on the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Encinitas Library from 12:30-2:30 PM in one of the Study rooms. This months’ topic is Mercury, we will kick off the discussion by listening to a lecture on CD by astrologer Charles Harvey. Bring your chart and any related materials to share or just bring yourself! Coffee and tea are available at the cart outside the library. I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
WEBSITE
Do you have an astrological comment, article to share or a question? Join the discussion by posting comments to the blog!
Another exciting change at SDNCGR is that we will soon be on Facebook. Stand by for instructions on how to ‘friend’ us on the website.
SPECIAL INVITATION
Want to get a heads up on what’s ahead in 2010 and be treated to a catered lunch? Who could resist this amazing invite! Please join us for a unique astrological experience when famed astrologer Robert Blaschke will be with us on October 3 to give us a fascinating look at the most important astrological aspects of 2010 and explain how they will affect us all on global, local and personal levels. In addition to this amazing lecture we are saying thank you to North County participants by providing a fantastic light lunch catered by Ki’s of Cardiff- all for one low ticket price! You can take advantage of this unique event by signing up today, paying via Pay Pal.
Happy transits until then,
Pam

On March 13, SDNCGR met for the first time at the San Elijo Campus of Mira Costa College, which is conveniently located right off I-5 in Cardiff. At the Friday night lecture we were truly graced to have Darrelyn Gunzburg share her unique viewpoint on the process of grieving. By means of a myth that she told about lying down with the seals, I took away a new awareness that grief is a turbulent and many-faceted process that must be clung to until one reaches the other side. I also became aware that the process of grieving may take anywhere from 2-5 years. We also learned how different zodiac signs and elements relate to this important process- a valuable lesson that I plan on incorporating into my practice.
At Darrelyn’s Saturday HANDWRITING ANALYSIS workshop the mood was lighter as we explored our own handwriting to see what it had to say about our personalities and of course how that was reflected in our charts. It was a fascinating journey and we each came away with one revision that if we worked on could potentially change the structure of how we see ourselves thereby improving our lives.
Fascinating stuff! If you weren’t able to attend I urge you to consider the following announcement:

Eight San Diego NCGR members met at the first Study Group on Saturday at the Cardiff Library for a very stimulating session. It is so helpful to be able to talk to to other astrologers in a common language about our art! Agendas were set and books were examined and exchanged and we all look forward to meeting next month (Saturday, February 7). Six members are studying for Level 1 and two for Level 11 exams which will be given in June. If you are considering certification, this is a fun and FREE way to go! If you’d like to join this group please email Pam .

An interesting article on the 5th anniversary of The Harmonic Concordance, from our member Johnny Mirehiel:
There are certain milestones which are recognized in the passage of time. For us, one such landmark is the 5th anniversary of The Harmonic Concordance.
It seems as though it was just the other night that we looked up at the Total Lunar Eclipse that was one of the major features of the astrological chart which heralded the Harmonic Concordance.1 The celebrations and ceremonies that took place then marked the single largest spiritual assemblage, at one specific moment in time, in recorded history. Untold millions of spiritually oriented people around the Planet – from Moscow to Malaysia, from the Aleutians to Tierra del Fuego, took time, individually and in groups small and large, to join in a moment of prayerful common intent. From literally thousands of locations around the globe simultaneous prayers went out for three specific intents…
