What is Acrophonology?
By Laurie A. Baum MSW, NCGR Level IV Certified Astrologer
acrophonology (ak-ro-fon-ah-lo-jee) 1. movement
of sound across space. 2. ancient Kabbalistic science
of astrological correspondences with every letter
of the alphabet
Acrophonology traces its roots to the mystical teachings
of ancient Hindus, Tibetans, Egyptians, Hebrews, and
early Christians. This ancient, sacred science correlates
every letter in the alphabet with an astrological
counterpart and defines each letter’s meaning
through its placement in a word and in a name. Acrophonology
also draws on the wisdom of sacred geometry and numerology
to bring greater richness to your understanding of
the esoteric meaning of your name. You will understand
through acrophonology why you are attracted to some
names and feel not-so-attracted to other names. You
will learn why you are harmonious with people who
have similar names to your own, why you feel attracted
to people who have letters in their names that you
do not have, and why you clash with people who have
a combination of the above. Like astrology, various
combinations of letters harmonize due to sacred geometric
relationships between each of the letters in the alphabet
just as each constellation relates to different elements
and modes.
Like astrology, various characteristics also can be
assigned to people with various letters in their first,
middle, and last names. For example, people whose
names begin with A's tend to be initiators and builders.
People whose names begin with J tend to be outgoing
and sociable. People whose names begin with L tend
to be sympathetic and compassionate. And people whose
names begin with M tend to be steadfast and warm.
One study showed that more convicted murderers had
Wayne as a middle name than any other name. Another
study showed that a disproportionate number of Phils
lived in Philadelphia and Jacks in Jacksonville. You
do resonate with people and places whose names are
similar to your own!
Additionally, acrophonology helps you understand your
basic nature through each of the different qualities
conveyed by your first, middle, and last names.
Read on to learn about your First Name:
Your first name represents your outer personality,
the "you" perceived by the world.
Your first name represents the part of "you"
that you are most aware of when you describe yourself.
Your first name describes your conscious personality.
Your first name represents your active, masculine
energy.
Your first name represents the energy you carry
from your father.
Your first name represents how you exert your will.
Your first name represents the tools you use to
make your way through life.
Astrologically speaking, your first name is
a blend of your Ascendant and Sun.
Your Middle Name:
Your middle name represents your feelings, your
inner life, and your soul.
Your middle name represents the way you react to
life, the way you feel, and the way you choose to
take action.
Your middle name represents the things that are
pleasing to you and the ideas, inspirations, and
people to whom you are attracted.
Your middle name represents your receptive, feminine
energy.
Your middle name represents the energy you carry
from your mother.
Your middle name represents the tools you use to
attain emotional stability.
Astrologically, your middle name is a blend
of your Moon and Neptune.
Your Last Name:
Your last name represents the way you accomplish
your goals.
Your last name describes the sphere of experience
you will enter and the path you will follow to achieve
your goals.
The harmony between your first, middle, and last
names (whether you use your given family name or
have changed your
name) will determine how easily you realize your
aims.
Harmony in acrophonology refers to similar letters
or patterns of letters in the entire name.
When you change your last name, or any name, you
change an aspect of the way you accomplish your
aims or pursue your life path.
Astrologically, your last name is a blend of
your Sun and Saturn.
Learning acrophonology, which associates each astrological
sign with a letter of the alphabet, will give you
the tools to understand how your name helps you realize
the energies contained in your natal chart. If your
name reflects your natal astrological energies, what
you see is what you get. If your name is different
from your natal chart, your name represents new qualities
and lessons that you are choosing to master through
the energy in your name. Most people are a blend of
letters that represent energetic patterns that can
be identified in the natal chart, and those that show
challenges you are trying to overcome and talents
you are trying to master in this special incarnation!
